What is the future of expertise?

With the recent explosion of generative AI, what will be the role of expertise in this new world? For example, in coding, can anybody with no expertise write quality computer programs using AI, or is there still a need for computer science expertise? Will photographers be needed, when high-quality images can be created by a single prompt?

Thus far I think of generative AI tools as just the next phase of tools to make work faster. We all use websites like Stack Exchange to find code examples, but a person needs expertise to use the code chunks correctly. Seems AI tools are just a next step of actually writing the code needed.

In statistics this could be another step in enabling poorly done analyses. Currently anyone can push some buttons on Excel or Minitab and perform a statistical analysis, but in my experience they are often incorrect (e.g., is the statistical model used the best choice, is it a good fit to the data).

The future is here, whether we want it or not.
